Well, at least they didn’t try and drown Sister. Still… I am annoyed now.

I’m not sure how much longer I can hold out not just finding this tale and seeing how it ends…

Uh….They did kill her….. That’s a part of the story, unfortunately. Looking forward to the reactions of those who do not know the story throughout the rest of this story….it’s going to be a dozy!

In this case, the authors themselves have already confirmed the queen’s fate in the comments sections of the *last* page in order to clear up some misconceptions about suffocation/smoke inhalation/heat. Her death is supposed to be old news, sorry.

Yeah… I guess people really don’t read the author’s comments below the page :p

Not typically. I’m glad I did today, I didn’t realize they killed her, either.

NOOOOOOOOOSSS!! WHY did you have to say that??? If I wanted to know what happened, I’d have looked up the story myself!!! You have just burst the bubble of happiness I got from finding a new Erstwhile page… :’(

This already happened in the last page, which showed the queen suffocating in the bath tub.

Yeah, I find the depicting of the queens / sisters death not explicit enough. The way it’s shown here leaves a bit of doubt.

I know the story, so I knew that she dies/died with the last page, I was hoping for something shoring it more definite than just some red light and smoke…..

So, the hunt will be over soon, I guess….

Wow, I am surprised on how concerned the stepmother looks for her daughter. Honestly though I didn’t think this plan was well conceived. Again fairytale logic lol.

Hey, uh…evil stepmother? I have an idea about your little lost eye predicament: STAGE AN ASSAULT WHERE THE QUEEN “LOSES” HER EYE.

No, I’m not rooting for her. I just came up with the idea and wondered why she didn’t try that. :\ I dunno.

Because all fairy tales were meant to be morality lessons. That is why they have such high consequences (the original stories that is, not the pap they fees the kids nowadays)

There’s an Italian version where the stepsister is blind in one of her eyes–so the stepmother has her tell the king that the calf–the little brother did it–in order to get the brother out of the way as well.

I’m not spoiling anything–completely different story despite similar things occuring.

She just needs to claim that she has a really nasty migraine. That should alleviate some of the problem…for about two or three days if she’s convincing. After that? You’re on your own sister.

Though now that I think about it this is an *evil* stepmother/sister team. Just say one of the maids poked her eye out and have her executed. Viola! Perfect cover story with the added bonus of keeping in character!

I love how the stepmother can do things like turn children into animals, but she can’t regenerate lost eyes.

Hmmm – maybe transfiguring existing objects is easier than creating something where there was nothing before. Magical-PHYSICS!

Some fantasy stories have a rule where magic can’t create something out of nothing. Maybe it’s something like that.

I wonder if Gina and the other authors have ideas for other tales they’re going to do because I believe after this one it’s Snow White and Rose Red and that was the last one on their initial they had. I would love to see Goose Girl and The Six that Went Far.

Seconding Goose Girl! Also, The Six Swans is a personal favorite. And one of the many “Search for the Lost Husband” archetypes!

I had two ideas about Stepsister’s missing eye.

    1) It happened in an accident which the mother blames her stepchildren for. This is why she hates them so much.

    2) It was the price the stepmother had to pay to gain her witchy powers. She rationalized that she’d make it up to her daughter somehow. I like this one. It explains a lot.

“Whatever you do, don’t roll over or we’re doomed.”

Maybe the stepmother could claim the queen had a lazy eye–the patch was there to strengthen it. (I’ve actually had to have one of those as a child)

And… I am slow. I just checked the previous page and did not see the smoke coming out of the window in the last panel. Must have been blind or rushing.

Well, now I’m more annoyed and there went the last of my resistance. Off to spoil myself!

    This is a fairy tale.
Either everything will be fine, or all goes to hell (like in The Bird, The Mouse & The Sausage).
Since the King and the Baby are still alive, it is likely that it’ll be the “and they lived happily ever after”.
So people, get up your hopes, in magic love wins all!
