Oh, and you expect us dead people to just wander around in such fashion! I would like to remind you that just because we are dead does not mean we are no longer sensible, and sensible people would not have the nerve to do that. You, sir, are a high cad!

      Yep, that’s about right.

Then the King could not restrain himself; he sprang towards her, and said, “You can be none other than my dear wife.” She answered, “Yes, I am your dear wife,” and at the same moment she received life again, and by God’s grace became fresh, rosy, and full of health.

Whew, I was worried for a minute there. but Yay!

This is way better than what I was expecting to happen: i.e. he gets a glimpse of disguised step-sister’s missing eye and step-mother tells him something along the lines of how he needs to kill the fawn for some reason to cure it.

For a story called Brother and Sister, their relationship has so little to do with the actual plot. The king could have just discovered her living in the woods on his own instead of that hunt subplot, and you would get the same story. I hope the brother actually becomes meaningful to the story before it ends…

Well, she is the one with reason, she would not have run off into the woods without her brother urging her to.
Also, magic is cool, thus needed. The kids listen much better if the brother is included in the story.

      BTW,
@artists: again, a wonderful illustration of the storypart told. Thank you.

The brother is very important. He is important because he has been turned into a faun. The word faun rhymes with the word gone, which makes Jane’s sad lines sound cooler.

Actually, I was sort of missing the sibling dynamic as well. I love sibling tales so I was a little disappointed that it doesn’t have more to do with them.

Oh, here’s another thought: Love can even conquer death. In the Animated tale of this, they change things alot to the storyline. There was no step-sister and the witch actually kidnaps the Sister and it’s the manifestation of her love for the child and king that visits the baby instead of her being killed.

My favorite part in the animated version is how the stepmother witch wanders around dejectedly banging into trees moaning about how she lost to the power of love.

… I had imagined that she would have had the curse lifted during a royal concession… though, that’s just by how I interpreted it. This is still a really neat interpretation of the story. Now the witch just needs to be set a blaze and the other curses need lifting….

Huh, not what I was expecting. I thought the king just wanted her for her white fawn and that the baby was a plus. Him actually caring is not what I got from his random proposal pages ago, lol. Ohhh, the evil step-mother and sister better get hung or beheaded or this is not going to be a very good fairy tale ending! ^_^ Off with their evilness!

      … Its necromantic.

Apparently it takes an especially half-arsed love (the kind where you instantly marry random girls you find in the woods) to raise the dead. This is why it doesn’t usually work.

Or else she wasn’t actually dead. She was just wandering around the house covered in talcum powder or somesuch.
