Yeah, these people are horribly mean to the old man. There’s no two bones about it. This is another story that strikes me pretty hard. My grandmother has alzheimer’s that has become much worse in the past few years. She has also become much weaker and needs a hand just walking around. It’s a very hard situation.

The book will be 136 pages and contain five fairy tales; The Farmer’s Clever Daughter; A Tale with a Riddle; Maid Maleen; The Bird, the Mouse, & the Sausage; and All Fur.

HOWEVER, if we can make it to the Sweet 16k, we will be able to include two extra short stories in the book, The Old Man & his Grandson, and The Little Shroud.

If we reach 200% of our goal… well, it’s a secret for now. We’ll reveal our next goal incentive soon.

Welcome to the newest short story here at Erstwhile! This one was illustrated by Louisa Roy.

Quick note on leaving comments: The readership is about 50/50 on those are familiar with the tales and those who are not familiar. I just ask that those in the know refrain from posting spoilers on the stories, so those who don’t know what’s going to happen (and don’t wish to read the tales in advance) don’t get spoiled on the story.

This is the end of the tale. I know, very depressing and sad. I think it might have been about healing from loss, but it’s a very harsh short tale. As I mentioned, if I were to have looked at this story now after having my baby, I would never have been able to illustrate this. I drew this particular story a few years back when we first started the Erstwhile project.

However, our next short story has a much better ending, in my opinion. We have coming up next, The Old Man & his Grandson. It contains a pretty powerful message. And after that one, we will be doing our next long story, Iron Hans.
