This is a short story based on one of the extremely short stories collected by the Grimm brothers.

So this will probably take a month hmm? This is a tear jerker for me. I just know I am going to be shedding some tears.
What!? Another sad one?! Is this going to traumatize me like The Bird, The Mouse, and the Sausage!? EEK.
Gina, I never actually bought the old Erstwhile collections. How many more tales are there from the old comics? Are you guys planning to queue up some new ones when you run out?
Yeah, I’ve been trying to balance out the sad ones in between ones with happy endings! Grimm tales are so grim!
There’s one more tale from the old stories that we have lined up which will be running after this story. That one is The Old Man & his Grandson. We will have two new ones ready to go after that, Iron Hans, and then Brother & Sister (in production now). After those, I have Snow White & Rose Red that I will be illustrating. =D
AH! I love Iron Hans =D Glad to know that this comic will be going past the older stories, I really love your adaptations and I was starting to worry it would go static once all the previous material ran.
Gotta ask, by the way, did you ever watch the old show “Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics”? I just ask because you’re about my age and I loved watching it on Nickolodeon all the time as a kid , so I wonder if you watched it too =D I found it again on Youtube recently and I realized a lot of the more unusual Fairy Tales I know are because they showed up on that show at some point. Like Iron Hans!
Oh, I LOVE that show! I actually have all the episodes on DVD. I think that was one of the hardest things about creating Erstwhile, actually. I had to make sure when I did the scripts for Iron Hans, Brother and Sister, and others that appeared in the series that I shook off any possible influence from them XD
I am ya’ll’s age too and I so watched that series too! I didn’t realize how much they made until I came upon the series on youtube. I can’t wait to see the new material and how ya’ll interpret the stories.
I love Schnee Wiesen und Rosenrot! (Snow White and Rose Red) My German teacher had us watch an old movie version of it so we could practice translating German (and cause it was a Grimm’s fairy tale). =D I think I’d die laughing if Knickebein (the comic relief servant) was in your rendition of it. =)
So looking forward to this!
Oh gina! Pleeeeease I’d like to see “Brother and Sister” here! Woudn’t you think about it? :)
Oh my goodness, Snow White & Rose Red is one of my favorites. I had a beautifully illustrated version of it as a kid, and I’m sure you’ll do it justice :)
Can’t wait to see those ones! There were always my favorites, and I’m really, really looking forward to Snow white and Rose Red!
I love your versions of the Grimm Tales so much! Some of these I’d never read before, and I love the Grimm Tales, but “The Little Shroud” is so sad. I’m going to be bawling before it’s done.
I would love to see you girls do ‘The Golden Bird” too, down the road.
I love how the characters are going to be African American in this one. That’s a nice touch I’ve never thought of.
For future tales–I’d love to see “The Six Servants”–that one is awesome.
Considering a shroud is usually something put on a corpse, that it’s little, and there’s a really cute little boy on the cover… I’m going to end up crying, aren’t I?
Yes–this tale is a tearjerker.
i know this one. It’s so cute.
Oh boy, I’m a little worried about this one…
Are you going to make me cry, Gina?
Even before I had my son, this one always made me cry. Now? I hope enough tissues stocked up!!!
I shall be very interest how this ends. Owo
Grimm brothers have been unpredictable, I can’t wait to see how you guys pull this off.
I feel weird saying this, but this cover is entirely similar to the one for “The Farmer’s Clever Daughter.”
Oh wow. Can’t unsee.
