      Have the bad luck to be in the employ of an insane king with a rebellious daughter.

      Hey, at least he didn’t throw her in a dungeon. Or banish her. Or banish her then…well, I think you get the idea… ;-)

    Not gonna lie, upon first glance the tower kind of looked like a male appendage. I think I’ve been spending too much time on the internet. :\
    This isn’t meant to be a slight against the artist, whom I greatly respect and admire.

    Towers are phallic symbols, so it’s natural you would think of a male appendage when you see one.

    “….build tall tower….” Rapunzel? Hmm, cool. “….seven years…” ohmygod! ohmygod! ohmygod! frejhfgkelnrignl I know this story!! Ahhhck!!!! *falls off chair*

    So…. *cough cough*… I love this story greatly. Shannon Hale did a magnificent version of it in her story Book of a Thousand Days.

Panel 1: King is angry. Maleen: I cannot and will not accept anyone else as my husband!
Panel 2: King is angry and demands a tower: Narration: Upon hearing this, her father became furious and ordered a dark tower to be built that prevented the rays of light from the sun and moon from penetrating it's walls. King: Build a dark tower! No sun or moon shall penetrate it! Now! Now!
Panel 3: King stands over crying daughter. King: You're to sit in this tower for seven years, after which time I shall come and see whether your spiteful spirit has been broken.
Panel 5: Maleen and her servant are being walled in. Narration: Enough food and drink for seven years was carried into the tower. Then the princess and her chambermaid were brought there and walled in.
Panel 6: Final bricks of wall closing in. Narration: and thus cut off from heaven and earth...
