My guess is that Maleen recognized Orlando when she first saw him and he got the hint at the door to the church, lifted the veil and recognized her, and gave her the necklace so that he could be sure he was marrying the right princess! Maybe…but I am not sure how he would bring up the subject if the thought he was marrying the wrong princess…

I could be wrong and I usually am, but it seems the prince hasn’t quite put two and two together yet. 4th panel kinda seems like disappointment on her face after the 3rd. So glad I found this comic. It is really enjoyable.

I’d have to agree with you. ^_^ To me, it seemed like she thought the lifting of the veil (3rd panel) would be the dramatic moment in which the Prince finally recognized her (especially after her earlier hints!), but he still hasn’t put everything together yet. Following that, I though the 4th panel was an (adorable) face-palm type of expression on her part, because the Prince still doesn’t get it. Love it. :)

There is the little thing of expecting the princess his father choose, and fearing wishful thinking.

I think part of it may also be that she was much younger when she was locked away in the tower. Compare how she looks on page 3 to how she looks now. She’s hardly the same person.
In fact, when this story first started, I found her their romance in view of her youth very off-putting and pedo-ish. She hadn’t even gone through puberty yet! How is he supposed to recognize her 7+ years later, after puberty is well and over?

If I had my guess, she had already reached puberty by than because it did look like she had developed a few of her adult traits. In midieval times people married young because alot of them probably died in their 40′s.
