Welcome to the newest short story here at Erstwhile! This one was illustrated by Louisa Roy.
Quick note on leaving comments: The readership is about 50/50 on those are familiar with the tales and those who are not familiar. I just ask that those in the know refrain from posting spoilers on the stories, so those who don’t know what’s going to happen (and don’t wish to read the tales in advance) don’t get spoiled on the story.

I wish people wouldn’t spoil the story for those of us who don’t already know it.
That’s why I generally don’t spoil the tale.
That’s why I wait until what I recognize as “the end” to break it to people in disbelief that it IS the end and tell about other versions I’ve read.
Cute kid–this should be fun.
=P I usually go find the story as soon as I see the title and read it in advance. Something I’m about to go do now!
There is a charm in watching a known tale transform, as well as learning a new one.
I honestly have anyone give the ending totally away but dropping hints sometimes gets annoying because then it ruins the next three pages or so.
I love this story! (and I wouldn’t dream of spoiling it.)
I agree. I know how easy it is to comment when you already know the story, but it’s unfair on the others.
I know some of the stories but not all, I’ve been unfamiliar with most of the ones drawn here at Erstwhile. I think I might know this one, but I’m not sure so I’m going to sit tight and enjoy it :)
I am very excited for this one. I remember being told it as a kid. And I’m glad Louisa was chosen as the artist for this one. (Or she picked.) I’ve enjoyed hers and Elle’s work the most! Thank you!
Not a problem. I never read the comments.
That is definitely my future plan.
I’ve suffered at the hands of people who know ahead of time, and ruin it for everyone else. I would neeeever do that. D:
