We’ve been getting a lot of questions on the lineup of fairytales we are planning for Erstwhile. It’s been quite a while and since we are nearing the end of our original list, we figure it can’t hurt to give you a peek into the future.
So, once Brother & Sister is complete we will be doing the following tales:
The Sweet Porridge (illustrated by Gina)
Death of the Little Hen (illustrated by Elle)
Snow White & Rose Red (illustrated by Gina)
The Worn Out Dancing Shoes (illustrated by Louisa)
(aka The 12 Dancing Princesses)
After that we do not have an exact list yet, but this will take us into the middle of next year, so we will update you again when we get closer to that time! Hope you’re as excited as we are about the upcoming tales!

I am especially excited for Snow White & Rose Red and The Worn Out Dancing Shoes. They’re two of my favorites :)
Yay, Snow White and Rose Red!
I cannot wait for The Worn Out Dancing Shoes (though I didn’t reconize the title as first since I know it better as the 12 Dancing Princesses). This and Beauty and the Beast are my most favorite fairy tails of all time.
Death of the Little Red Hen is pretty messed up in my opinion. Twelve Dancing Princesses should be fun–although I like a non Grimm version of it better.
You are doing two of my favorite fairy tales soon! The Worn Out Dance Slippers and Snow White and Red Rose do not get enough exposure! Thank you so much!
Oh man please do The Worn Out Dancing Shoes soon! I LOVE that story!
Thee 12 Dancing Princesses has always been one of my favorites! I can’t wait to see it!
Is “The of the Little Red Hen” not related to The Little Red Hen story who makes makes bread>
Also is it a long tale or a short tale?
As far as I know it’s completely unrelated. Death of the Little Red Hen is more in the line of The Bird, the Mouse, & the Sausage.
I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to be called “Death of the Little Red Hen.” In my Grimm’s Fairy Tales book. it’s called ” The Death of the Hen.” It’s also called “Death of the Little Hen.” It’s a short story.
My book also calls it Death of the Little Hen, but Elle mentioned she has seen more variations on the title. I think we’ll just go with Death of the Little Hen to be safe. ^_^
I thought Snow White and Rose Red were next?
Yeah, things had to be switched around a bit. The Erstwhile kickstarter sucked up the last of my extra time (juggling Red String, Love is in the Blood, Riding Hood, and Erstwhile is sometimes a lot of juggling), so we’re doing a couple short stories in between while I start illustrating it. ^_^
YEEEEES The 12 Dancing Princesses thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
You’re doing the Twelve Dancing Princesses!!! Yayayayayayayayay~!!!!!!
….I’m happy.
OMG YES!!! When I read the words worn out dancing shoes I literary hugged my computer.
Nice, my best friend introduced me to Grim version of Snow White and Rose Red, and it’s one of the one’s I like best. Also have you given any thought to doing Bearskin?
Oh wow, I somehow only just saw this, but I am psyched about the 12 Dancing Princesses!
SQUEE! Snow White and Rose Red was one my mom read over and over to my sister and I; she actually had a storybook of it from someplace. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
oh YAY! The worn out shoes is awesome!
The Worn-Out Shoes is my favourite Grimm’s tale :D :D
Awesome Keep up the great work :D
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Snow White and Rose Red and The 12 Dancing Princesses were two of my FAVORITE fairy tales growing up! They had a huge effect on me in my formative years (Snow White and Rose Red especially) and are part of the reason I got my Masters in Folklore!!!! I’m SO EXCITED, I never see anyone give those some comic/re-adaption/film/etc. love!!!!
PS I love my copy of Erstwhile volume One, and it looks fantastic tucked in with the folklore texts on my desk! ;)
after those (love them, especially the 12 Dancing Princesses) is it possible to do one for King Trushbeard? it’s one of my favorites, and what’s not to love about a bratty princess learning what it means to be poor?
Oh wow, I forgot about Thrushbeard :) That’s another good one!
I love the fact that you guys are doing Snow White and Rose Red and the Worn Out Dancing shoes. I’ve always LOVED those stories.
By the way, there is a good novel version of Snow White and Rose Red by Patricia C. Wrede. Check it out if you ever get a chance: http://www.amazon.ca/Snow-White-Rose-Patricia-Wrede/dp/0142411213/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1351863943&sr=1-1
Will you guys consider doing GooseGirl and the Girl without Hands?
I know hardly any of the fairytales you’ve done/are doing, but I love the way they’re presented.
I will definitwly keep following your work :)
OMG Snow and Rose!!!! Yay :) :) and the Dancing Shoes!!! You ladies are the BEST
Snow White and Rose Red is probably my third favorite fairy tale. :) Awesome!
What are your first and second?
Just this morning I heard an interview with Philip Pullman (author of the _His Dark Materials_ trilogy); he’s come out with a new interpretation of stories from the Grimm collection.
Given my deeply ambivalent reaction to _HDM_ I’m not sure if I’m attracted or repelled by the idea!
I certainly am enjoying your (singular and plural!) take on the stories, and looking forward to any more that you want to publish (Well, I can probably do without a cartoon version of Streuelpeter…)
Oh no! I guess after a hard life of baking bread without help and fighting off the wicked Mr. Fox, the Little Red Hen’s time had to come eventually
ooooh I love Snow White and Rose Red, it’s one of my earliest childhood memories.
Yay, Snow White and Rose Red has always been one of my favorites. I’m really hoping to see you ladies interpret Goose Girl, there’s something lovely and sad about that story that I’ve always loved.
i would be over the moon if y’all did a version of The Goose Girl or The Twin Brothers (although its longer than most stories by the brother’s Grimm)
